The easy $ATOM tokenomics story just broke. ▫️@gauntlet_xyz Phase 1 found reward-driven selling averaged only ~0.06% of supply per week. ▫️Stakers were not continuously dumping enough rewards to explain $ATOM’s price performance. ▫️Issuance is still high: the @cosmoshub releases roughly 3.6x more immediately liquid rewards than NEAR and 5.7x more than Ethereum. ▫️Those rewards still dilute holders, even when they are not immediately sold. ▫️Selling was concentrated among a small group of large holders, mostly through CEXs. ▫️The largest measured sell reaction came after Prop 848 passed - larger than the reactions around Terra and FTX combined. So Phase 2 is asking the more useful question: What should stakers provide in return for yield? The problem is no longer just how much $ATOM gets issued. Everyone posting an obituary for the Cosmos ecosystem and its apps-with-chains-attached is mostly talking about one of four things: * token-first "businesses" * no PMF * products that never needed a token or a blockchain * companies "pivoting" Infrastructure @cosmos is still trying to find a business.
